Calendula couldn't be easier and is the ideal plant for introducing children to the joys of gardening. Kids love the strangely shaped seeds and the fact that they can scatter them over the poorest of ground and they will produce a carpet of sunshine. The petals are edible and can be used to add colour to summer salads.
