Lemon Balm (H.P.)

This perennial member of the mint family originated in the Middle East. The fresh lemon scented leaves can be added to chicken and fish dishes or be used to flavour cold drinks, yoghurt and ice cream. The leaves can be dried and used to make a refreshing, relaxing tea which is said to relieve headaches or as a fragrant addition to pot pourri.

Sowing Instructions

Sow on the surface of moist seed compost from late winter to early summer. Do not cover seeds. Seal inside a polythene bag until seedlings emerge. When they are large enough to handle, transplant into 3ins pots. Later plant out 12ins apart in ordinary garden soil preferably in full sun.
