Sometimes known as pot marjoram or 'Joy of the Mountains', Oregano is a perennial herb native to the Mediterranean regions of Europe and central Asia. It is widely used in cooking throughout Europe but is particularly important in the cuisines of Italy and Greece. Itis used to flavour salads, oils, sauces fried vegetables and grilled meat. Oregano grows to around 12ins high and produces spikes of purple flowers in summer. Is said to repel the cabbage butterfly.
Sowing Instructions
Sow in spring in trays of moist seed compost ant seal inside a polythene bag until germination. Transplant into 3ins pots when seedlings are large enough to handle. Later plant out 12ins apart in full sun.
