Salad rocket was made popular by T.V. chefs during the 1990s and is now widely available in supermarkets throughout the country. It is very easy to grow your own. The young leaves have a distinctive peppery taste and make an excellent addition to green salads or sandwiches. They can also be cooked lightly as a substitute for spinach or tossed in pasta or rice dishes.
Sowing Instructions
Sow thinly under cloches in early spring or later in open ground. Thin out to 12ins apart. Crop regularly to encourage new growth and remove flower buds to discourage bolting. Make successional sowings to ensure a good supply of fresh new leaves.
