Majestic
My hero, Archibald Findlay produced this after his reputation as a breeder was in doubt. It became the most grown variety in the UK in the 20th Century and helped us survive the 2nd World War. It had very large yields and good resistance to disease for the time. It is consistently productive in a wide range of soils and growing conditions and it stores well. Its large, white, slightly rough (to the modern eye) tubers are the epitome of potatoes for an older generation. Opinions on flavour have always varied.
