In the way of the potato world it is now named after a merchant (Henry became a successful agricultural journalist in Canada and Mr Kerr got the Lord Derby medal). It is a tall, robust plant which crops well in a long growing season. It is fine grained, floury and very popular in Scotland and Ireland. The potato for a Burns’ Supper.
