A Scottish Crop Research Institute “retro” breeding programme project was commissioned originally to supply Sainsbury’s with an “old fashioned” salad which they could control completely with modern Plant Variety Rights. It is a Desiree x Pink Fir Apple cross owing more to Pink Fir Apple than Desiree. It is a very pleasant, nutty “semi” knobbly salad.
