Carrot fly larvae need a chemical called chlorogenic acid to survive. Flyaway has less of this chemical than other varieties and is consequently less attractive to the adult fly. Even if your crop is attacked, the larvae which bore the holes will soon die off and so the damage will be minimal. Flyaway has blunt ended, cylindrical roots which are exceptionally succulent and sweet.
Sowing Instructions
Sow thinly from spring to mid summer, 0.5in deep in rows 12ins apart. As soon as the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin out gradually until carrots are 4ins apart. The last thinnings will be large enough to use.
