Mayan Gold
This was the first of a group of bright yellow fleshed, phureja sub species potatoes produced by SCRI. It produces many small to medium sized, high dry matter tubers with pleasant soft texture. The phereja group are the "posh" potatoes of the Andes which produce a premium in the market. They do not store well and are replanted very soon after harvest in areas of S. America where 2-3 crops a year are possible. They cook quickly and most people find them very pleasant but they need to be eaten fairly soon after harvest.
