Dianthus caryophyllus 'Fenbow Nutmeg Clove' (H.P.)

This old garden variety features neat, evergreen plants and dark crimson, double flowers with a unique, spicy perfume. The edible petals were used by monks in the 17th century to add flavour to red wine and can be used to add zest to salads, jams and pickles. These carnations make wonderful cut flowers and are ideal plants for both borders and containers. (24ins)

Sowing Instructions

Sow indoors from late winter to early summer, just covering the seeds with compost. Seal inside a polythene bag until germination. Transplant into 3ins pots when large enough to handle and grow on. Harden off before planting out (12ins apart) after last frosts.
