Purple Basil is slightly spicier and more aromatic than sweet basil. The glossy, reddish purple leaves intensify in colour in hot weather and provide an attractive contrast to the small pink flowers. Adds an extra dimension to salad dishes. (2ft.)
Sowing Instructions
Sow in March in trays of seed compost, lightly covering the seeds. Seal inside a polythene bag until seedlings emerge. Transplant into 3ins pots when they are large enough to handle. When well grown, gradually harden off before planting out in sheltered position after last frosts. In cooler, more northerly areas the plants can be grown on in larger pots and placed in a window sill, greenhouse or coldframe.
