Jalapeno peppers originated in Mexico. The moderately hot, medium sized, bullet shaped fruits are normally harvested when green but will ripen to deep red if left. They are a common ingredient of salsas and can be successfully pickled but, being thick skinned, they do not dry well.
Sowing Instructions
Sow seeds thinly on the surface of a good seed compost, lightly covering the seeds. Place in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag until after germination. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 3ins pots and, when well grown, harden off and plant outside 18ins apart in a sunny, well drained site. For indoor crops, plant into growbags or large pots. In the U.K., peppers are generally more successful when grown under glass.
