This 'Jack Be Little' type is a new development in mini pumpkins in that it can be cooked whole in the microwave. Small, decorative, orange and gold mottled, deeply ridged fruits are freely produced on compact, trailing plants. Simply slice off the tops, scoop out the seeds, replace the tops and microwave for around 4 minutes to make delicious, healthy snacks for Hallowe'en. Can also be stuffed and baked. They store well if protected from frost. (average weight 115g)
Sowing Instructions
Sow in April or May 1cm deep in pots of moist seed compost. Place in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag until seedlings appear. When seedlings have two or three leaves transplant them into 5ins pots and grow on for several weeks. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out 90cm apart in rich well drained soil in a sunny sheltered position. Can be grown in a polytunnel. Harvest the fruits from late summer onwards. Pick any remaining fruits before first frosts and store in frost free conditions.
