This is an Early Maincrop bred sometime before 1916 by Mr Wilde of Edgecote. It is probably the same thing as Gloucester Black Kidney and Port Wine Kidney. All have reputations for flavour and vigour - while the Gloucester variety was supposed to have originatated as loot from a famous train crash in the area.
